After further investigation, I found that the Network Controller did not have a driver installed. I downloaded the latest network adapter driver software on HP's web site (via ethernet cable) and ran the driver program. The Realtek PCIe Family Controller driver updated but the Network Controller driver did not. As a result, I still have not been able to connect to any wi-fi networks.
